Browsers
	Microsoft Internet Explorer 3	Having evolved from a clone of Mosaic, the latest incarnation of Internet Explorer has really caught up with Netscape. Easy to use but currently only available for Windows 95 and NT. Supports stylesheets and the proprietary ActiveX.
	Netscape Navigator 3	The classic browser. Netscape has roughly 75% of the browser market and is very stable in use. It is available for all platforms; Mac and Windows 3.1 included. Does not support stylesheets or ActiveX, instead choosing to promote the cross-platform Java as an alternative.
Graphics Tools
	Paint Shop Pro	One of my favourite bits of software, PSP is a quick-loading general purpose graphics package. It is very simple to use and includes the ability to create compressed .jpgs and transparent .gifs; perfect for websites. It also enables you to edit your pictures with some great tools, and to convert from and to just about all possible graphic file types.
	Gif Construction Set	Enables you to create animated gifs. Create the frames for your animation using Paintshop Pro and then use the Gif Construction Set to put them all together.
	Microsoft Gif Animator	More software to help you to create animated gifs. This software is free and friendly to use. It has a more familiar interface than the Gif Construction Set but lacks some the features, especially the construction wizard.
Authoring Tools
	HTML Notepad	Based on the standard Windows Notepad, this is superbly simple piece of software for editing the HTML code of your website. It contains a toolbar and menus for speeding up authoring, also ensuring the correct syntax. Also includes help with creating your website.
	Sizzling HTML Jalfrezi	No need to explain - you're using it now! But did you know can get a complete copy for use locally on your hard drive. You can also join the Spiced-up Program.
	MapEdit	A neat bit of software to ease the construction of client-side image maps.
